Our History

History of the Church

Our History   (All of history properly viewed is really “his – story”)

Established 30 A.D. (give or take a couple of years)  Jesus is Alive again three days after His death!

After Jesus our Redeemer, the incarnated son of God triumphantly laid down His own life to die sacrificially by being crucified as the sin bearer of the world, Christ then arose from the dead on the third day and the word quickly got out through those first witnesses and disciples. He began his church, comprised of those who believed his promises, and experienced the grace, the power, and rule of God as their new found and rightful king. Even Saul of Tarsus who formerly was an enemy of the message of the gospel (good news of the death burial and resurrection of Jesus) and who persecuted the early followers of Christ to the point of capital punishment, was himself transformed into being one of its bravest proclaimers.  Lives were radically committed to Christ even to the point of martyrdom by a multitude of followers then and right through to our own century, proving that a fire lit by God is still burning.  So the rest you might say is history.  Real people and events in real geography with verifiable artifacts of archeology.  Indeed it began as Middle East history, and the fulfilment of many promises made to His own chosen people the Jews, (descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) before it ever became foundational for western civilization.

Which brings us back to the question of “How did Liberty Christian Assembly ever come into existence in Red Deer?”

Fast forwarding… (Approximately 20 centuries later)

After many years of ministry in Edmonton, Pastor Elmer Whittaker and his wife Maxine moved their family to Red Deer in response to an invitation for ministry in our city. The Lord continued to bless many lives with the good news they proclaimed and the love they extended. Eventually their ministry took shape in gathering believers together into a new congregation under the banner of a new name that the Lord provided through a visionary dream. So Liberty Christian Assembly was birthed on February 8th, 1998.

The congregation thrived until faced with the sudden passing of Pastor Elmer on August 17, 1999. Then the Lord provided His grace to go forward, and those that rallied together to continue to seek the Lord and to love one another.

In the next couple of years, Ministers were called upon until the baton was eventually passed to Pastor George and Annette Bradley who have continued to serve the Lord and His flock at Liberty for the past nineteen years.

From the outset Liberty has had a vital connection with the Fellowship of Christian Assemblies, which is an international fellowship of Christians, congregations, ministers and missionaries in a variety of countries around the world.  This fellowship works together with other evangelical Christians and has historical roots in the Pentecostal movement, and we choose to work together in a spirit of love and unity with all true believers who follow and love the Lord Jesus and His teachings provided through the Holy Scriptures.

Liberty is non-denominational and welcomes people of varied backgrounds and life experiences.  The good news we proclaim is Biblically based, and centers upon Jesus being Lord is worthy of all glory and praise!  Our style of music used in worship is comprised of both traditional and contemporary, to share the message that is timeless to young and old and the young at heart.

We want to continue to proclaim the message of the grace of God, so people will know that they can do nothing that is ever acceptable to God until they first receive the gift of what God has done for them.

The Bible says that we who are the followers of Jesus love God, because He first loved us.  It tells us that God demonstrated His love towards us in such an astounding way as choosing to die for us and in our place on the cross while we still were choosing to rebel and to go our own way.  By God’s grace your personal story can also go from rebel to saint.  Come join in with “his story” and help us write the next chapters of our history.
